Grant Williams, a Northland born artist graduated from Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland in 1991. He lives and works in Grey Lynn, Auckland and has been commissioned to produce numerous private and public artworks.

Experience in producing large kinetic works has led him to draw on technology and methods not commonly used in the art world. Pushing the boundaries of what is possible in creating sculpture.

“In the early nineties my father and I watched George Ricky’s kinetic sculpture outside the Auckland City Art Gallery.  I was fascinated and inspired by its movement and couldn’t help thinking the work would express more as an organic form. I  imagined them being more plant like, and that became my starting point. I strive to hide the engineering to make way for organic form that compliments the fluid movement.”

Peoples Choice winner of the Sculpture OnShore exhibition for two consecutive shows 2006 and 2008, Williams produces commissioned artworks for people all over New Zealand – with his largest public sculpture ‘Spring seedling’, 10m high, spanning up to 11m, located in Blenheim.

Williams kinetic works are enjoying increasing international attention from individuals / collectors in New York and San Francisco, his most recent international install being in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
